The Bahamas, officially known as the Commonwealth of the Bahamas consists of 29 islands 661 cays ad 2387 islets. The Bahamas is located in the Atlantic Ocean. The geographic location of these islands is at the north of Cuba, Hispaniola and the Caribbean Sea; northwest of the Turks and Caicos Islands and at the Southeast of the United States of America. The English speaking country is almost 14000 sq. km in size and bears an estimated population of over 330,000. Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas.

But eventually small pox ravaged the Lucayans and reduced their population to half. Presently it is assumed that the islands lay uninhabited until the middle of the 17^th century. But the evident of attempts to travel to the Bahamas and settle there by the groups from Spain, France, Britain and the Amerindians have been found. The exquisite culture of the Bahamas makes it more interesting to visit along the sea and the islands. The Bahamian culture is a hybrid of the African and the European cultures. Though tourism and commercialism has influenced the country with the advent of American music and television, the islands still thrives and maintains their uniqueness in its culture.

Obeah is a religious practice of folk magic and sorcery in some of the Family islands of the Bahamas.
